Crashes Summary

What it is:

The Crashes Summary section highlights your crash history and categorizes your crash risk relative to FMCSA thresholds and peers.

What you’ll see:

  • Total crashes over the past two years
  • Crash rate per driver,  identifies the per-driver crash rate based on crashes in past 2 years and number of drivers identified on most recent MCS-150 form submission
  • Severity breakdown: injury, property damage, etc.
  • Trend indicator, showing whether your crash frequency is rising or falling

Why it matters:

FMCSA calculates crash risk by dividing total crashes by a combination of your average number of power units over the past 18 months and how often those power units are utilized based on your vehicle miles traveled on the MCS-150 form.. Carriers above the threshold enter a higher risk percentile and may receive interventions. Crash data is also combined into BASICs to affect your Crash Indicator score.(CSA Compliance, Safety, Accountability, FMCSA, fmcsaregistration.com

Learn More: FMCSA’s SMS Methodology explains how the Crash Indicator BASIC is based on crash frequency, severity, and peer grouping—only carriers that exceed thresholds receive alerts.(CSA Compliance, Safety, Accountability
